We need you!
We need a few more Sunday School class parents. This does not mean you need to be in
the classroom during Sunday school sessions. The teachers need help with two class projects that happen each year and are especially valuable and fun experiences for the students:

1. The class parent(s) will help the students and teacher with ideas for a class Mitzvah project and a class presentation (play, art show, game show, performance, etc.) expressing what they have learned.

2.  They will help with organizing and producing the projects.

We¹re also looking for adults who would like to be a
guest teacher for one of our Sunday school classes. Do you have a favorite Jewish topic you'd like to share with the next generation of Humanistic Jews? It could be cooking, music, history, or a Mitzvah project.

Please contact Education Director
Julie Wynmor if you're interested in helping make our Sunday School an even richer and more memorable Jewish experience. Your involvement strengthens our whole community.

Our Sunday School is very active. We meet two Sundays a month from 10:00 am to noon in Murphey Hall on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. In the first half hour, the entire congregation enjoys great music, singing and a community warm-up to Sunday School. Then the kids head off to their classrooms to enjoy age-appropriate activities and lessons, while parents often walk to a nearby coffee shop for invigorating conversation. We also frequently offer adult education sessions on Humanistic Judaism for all members of our congregation during Sunday School.

The mission of our education program is to help raise a new generation of young people with a strong grounding in the ethics and culture of Judaism, and to enhance self-respect and responsible behavior. Our Sunday School uses meaningful Jewish literature and historical memory to promote the self-esteem and independent thinking of every student.

Out of these encounters, the students begin to develop a sense of their moral obligation for the welfare of others and the reality of their unique Jewish identity. They also deepen their understanding of their heritage and frequently participate in the congregational community through group sing-alongs, holiday celebrations and presentations to the entire congregation.

What will my kids learn?

Our music is a very special part of our congregational life, whether before Sunday School or at holiday celebrations. Check back soon for songsheets you can download!
